JAN 27, 24 .. THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION SAYS ..

There are many outstanding meetings in Hong Kong.

On page 62 of the November 2023 issue of the AA Grapevine Magazine, I came across a reference to an extremely interesting article about alcohol that I want to share.

THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION STATES THAT ..
No level of alcohol consumption is safe for our health.

I can clearly recall many, MANY, articles stating that "some" red wine is beneficial to humans.

Although more research is needed, some studies show that red wine is good for heart health because it helps reduce the risk of plaque buildup in the arteries. Resveratrol, a polyphenol in red wine, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and may reduce the risk of cancer by discouraging cancer cell growth.

If you would like to read more about theories of red wine being good for one's health, please click onto the below link..

And many other various articles that stipulate "safe levels" of alcohol consumption.

I idly wonder to myself how many of you reading this are thinking to yourself :

"I don't care what the World Health Organization says!"

Some say that the above attitude is the "Alcoholic Personality" speaking.

Personally I like to look at, to ponder, yes study, such proclamations.

  1. An interesting article. My first concern always lies with my consumption of alcohol. I know that a drop is harmful to me, can trigger the allergy of needing more, lead to untold horrors of humiliation and degradation. I don't verbalize that I think alcohol is bad for everyone (although I certainly think so) because they are adults (or should be) and can make their own choices, informed or uniformed as they choose. I myself consume sugar even though I know it is detrimental to my body. I am pretty sure alcohol, sugar, tobacco will never be banished because of the monetary strength of those who make money selling the products and consumer demand. We love our vices. We are human. I think if education began early on the damages of those three, use would start to wane. But I suspect that will never happen. I'm grateful I never took up tobacco, that I have been able to give up alcohol and I still continue to attempt to control my sugar. Somedays, I do better. But I am human and will fail at times because I love my vice (chocolate-dark, milk, any and all chocolate.)

Hi Kathleen. Thanks for you interest, comment and support. It really is an "Eye Opener" when the World Health Organization states NO alcohol is good for you. We have friends who seem to be, at their advanced ages, in ill health and who continue to drink even when their Medical Doctors state they should NOT drink any alcohol period! Denial! Neither of us has ever smoked and have friends now paying dearly for their lifetime of tobacco use. Again thanks so very much for you support.
